What personal data I collect and why I collect it
The only personal information collected on this site is the data you enter if you submit a comment or use the contact form to email me.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site I collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Contact forms
If you complete a contact form on this website, I may retain a copy of the submission indefinitely for administrative purposes. Data you submit in a contact form will not be used for marketing purposes unless that intent is clearly stated on the form submission page.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on this site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
When you visit the site, Google Analytics may set or read existing cookies in your browser for the purposes of providing aggregate website traffic data.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

Who I share your data with
If you submit a comment, your data is sent to Akismet, an anti-spam service. Otherwise, I do not share your personal data with anyone.
How long I retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
Contact form submissions are retained indefinitely for administrative purposes. Aggregated analytics data is retained indefinitely. User and event data associated with cookies is retained for 26 months.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me. You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where I send your data
Visitor comments are checked through an automated spam detection service.
